About the Event

Jethro Tull, one of the most important names in the history of rock music, are coming to Cyprus for the very first time, on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Patticheio Municipal Theater in Larnaca. Led by Ian Anderson, the man who brought the flute—an instrument that became the band’s signature—into rock music, today’s lineup is completed by the outstanding Jack Clark (guitar and vocals), Scott Hammond (drums), John O'Hara (keyboards and vocals), and David Goodier (bass and vocals). The band’s story begins in 1968 when a group of young British musicians, coming from different local bands, met in Luton, a town north of London, and started playing together. Their love for the blues and their shared appreciation for other musical styles soon led them to various pubs across Southern England, while their first big break came when they were offered Thursday slots at the legendary Marquee Club in London. From 1968 to the present, Jethro Tull—with several lineup changes—continue to impress with the variety and depth of their music, blending elements of rock, folk, jazz, and classical. Their first album, This Was, was released in 1968, strongly influenced by the blues. In 1969, Jethro Tull released Stand Up as well as a series of singles like Living in the Past. Albums such as Benefit (1970), the monumental Aqualung (1971), and Thick as a Brick (1972) established their reputation worldwide. By the mid-1970s, Jethro Tull had become one of the most successful live acts globally, as popular as legendary names like Led Zeppelin, Elton John, and the Rolling Stones. It is striking that despite the complexity of their music, Jethro Tull managed to stand out in an era dominated by far more digestible pop. Their songs are narratives filled with vivid imagery, symbolism, and a variety of musical compositions, combining rock, folk, and progressive elements to create their own distinct identity. Locomotive Breath from the album Aqualung (1971) begins with the gentle calm of piano melodies that gradually escalate, with drums and electric guitar creating overwhelming intensity, while the lyrics remind us of the inevitability of the human condition: “And the train it won’t stop going, no way to slow it down.” Songs like Wond’ring Aloud from the same album reveal a more tender side of the band, capturing moments of intimacy and reflection, painting images of contemplation and inner peace. In 2023, Jethro Tull released RökFlöte, an album inspired by Scandinavian mythology, once again proving their ability to combine seemingly disparate elements such as rock, classical, and the folk atmospheres that Ian Anderson conjures with his distinctive flute. In 2025, we eagerly await the new Jethro Tull album. After more than 30 releases and over 60 million records sold worldwide, they always have something new to say, while revealing facets of a sensitivity that may belong to another era—but which they always manage to bring to life. Their concerts remain a deeply emotional musical journey—from the band’s “wild” early days at the Marquee Club in London to the enchantingly mature present. Their thousands of shows in more than 40 countries have been life milestones for their fans. A unique musical philosophy turned into a transcendent experience.
